The Christian Community Bible: The Story

Monday, February 13th, 2006

I am not certain if there is such a thing as the Emergent Church movement within the Roman Catholic Church. If one ever starts, however, they already have a readily available Bible version to use. The Christian Community Bible: Pastoral Edition will easily fit the bill. If people want a study bible whose notes will help them break out of the mind set of American culture and more into the views of the oppressed and marginalized of the world, there is not a better one out there, Catholic or otherwise.

Heaven’s Half-Way House

Friday, February 10th, 2006

This scene is soon to be a common part of the landscape come the end of May, 2006. Half-way houses and other facilities of good will and aid to the socially crippled will hopefully be in place before then.

What’s Right With The Mega-Church?

Wednesday, February 8th, 2006

I have often criticized facets of the Mega-Church in general, and the church I attend in particular. One may rightly wonder, “If he is so unhappy there, then why does he keep going?” Sometimes I ask myself that same question. I am pretty certain the Elders of the church are also asking a variation of that question. “If you think we are so bad, just why are you here?” It is a good question. Does my attendance at a church I sometime criticise involve me in a moral contradiction?

Is the Joke Worth Taking?

Monday, February 6th, 2006

My post of a few weeks ago, written with my tongue firmly implanted in my cheek, discussed the reasons why Christians were the brunt of our secular society’s jokes. The gist of the post was that Christians were basically the only religious group right now that was relatively safe to pick on. I even had a comment to the effect that one would have to be crazy to make jokes about the Moslems in the current world situation.

Well, as the above cartoon shows, the world has not taken my advice.

The New Church Logo: Take It or Leaf It.

Friday, February 3rd, 2006

I was staring at our church bulletin and once again noticed our logo (see at left). I remembered when I was looking for the church that first Sunday. I saw the sign and almost went past it. You see, northern Ohio has a rather extensive park system and the sign made me think it was [...]

A Cry from the Lost Demographic!

Wednesday, February 1st, 2006

I almost never read USA Today. The only time I glance at it is when they shove it under a door when I am imprisoned in a hotel room for my job. So this week, I had the occasion to check it out. Two articles in the January 23rd issue caught my eye. I found [...]
