The Wandering Heretic

Those who have read this site for some time, know of my identification with the character Kwai Chang Caine in the old Kung Fu tv series; and even Kung Fu, The Legend Continues. There is a line in the last series that states, “I am Caine; I will help you.”

I have tried to make that the motto of my life. “I am here; I will help you.” Yet this time, I cannot do it alone. I need your help.

My Mother-In-Law has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Contrary to the usual Mother-In-Law jokes, I am watching her go from a vibrant woman to a shadow of herself. She is not as far along as some, but the process is still painful. She forgets where she is sometimes; not recognizing her own home–prompting a call at 5:00 AM to our house for confirmation. She can no longer drive as she will get lost; her generous, gentle personality sometimes transforms by anger for no obvious reason. I could go on.

My family and I are walking to raise funds for Alzheimer’s programs.  Our team is the “Red Roos,” named for my wife’s favorite color and animal.  We are walking not just for a cure. At this stage there is no cure; however, programs are still vitally necessary to help the victims of this disease along with their primary and secondary caregivers.

They need help. I don’t use this site to raise funds; however, for this event I do.  Even Caine can’t do this one alone.   If you have read and been enriched either by my blog, my cartoons, or the CGV bible, please do what you can to support our team this year in the Alzheimer’s Walk: Sunday, October 5th, 2008.  It doesn’t have to be large amounts.  $5 from many people can go a long way.
