Joshua’s People Cartoons
I started a comic strip about 25 years ago. I called it Joshua’s People. (This was long before Fr. Gerzone made that name famous in a series of novels.) Despite my best efforts, and the help of a rather famous author (not Fr. Gerzone), I could not get it published. As I look on it now, in true heretic fashion, I see that the strip was too religious for the secular media and too secular for the religious. Still, I had a developed group of characters and some plot ideas. If I say so myself, much of it retains its humor despite the passage of time. So what better place to publish than on the web?
I have also included this strip as a feature of this website for another reason. Bloggers tend to get negative, usually doing a rant or criticism of something that has gotten under their skin. We can waver toward pomposity, like only our opinions really matter. Believe it or not, life and the church have always been messy. Both have managed to survive without blog sites in the past. They will both survive when we are gone or have forgetten to renew our web addresses. So Joshua’s People is here to remind us (and me!) not to take ourselves too seriously.
Enjoy. I have two to three months of strips already in the can. Who knows. If it finds an audience, I may even pick up a pen again.
In the meantime, I present you, JOSHUA’S PEOPLE.
